UK – Betfred hopeful of Chelmsford racino

By - 13 December 2016

British bookie Betfred, the majority stakeholder at Chelmsford City Racecourse, is hopeful that a casino will be allowed to operate at the site.

A spokesman for Betfred said: “We are hopeful the plans get the go-ahead. There has been a site visit from the planning officers and questions have been asked on behalf of the local authority which we have answered. We want to reiterate this proposal will create 100 jobs, help revitalise the area and increase the quality of racing which we know the public would support.”

The proposal has the support of the local council although plans to hold 10 music concerts a year may not be so successful.

Black Notley Parish Council said: “We feel a casino at the Race Course to be conducive with the nature of the business so long as it is run to the accepted times of operation which at present is 11pm and 12am at the weekend. We would expect any concerts and lighting levels to run to the existing acceptable operating times.”

A spokesperson for Felsted Parish Council said: “Councillors are concerned that the area appears insufficient for the number of vehicles that are likely to attend the proposed events. It is vital that there is sufficient parking provision on site so that parking does not spill into the village.”
