Argentina – Floating casino in Misiones confirmed

A new floating casino has been officially unveiled in the the province of Misiones, in the far north east of Argentina, after an agreement was reached between the Provincial Institute of Lotteries and Casino, and the Company of Tourism and Services SA.

At a press conference held on Tuesday in the Maitei Posadas Hotel & Resort, officials revealed that the casino will also house 52 five star category rooms will have eight floors, a swimming pool and other entertainment facilities including a sauna and spar and will be operational in the next six months.

The casino will be moored permanently to the harbour in the city of Puerto Iguazú and will consist of six gaming rooms while another hotel will be constructed nearby on the harbour which will also be part of the floating casino which will consist of sixty rooms.

Misiones is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Argentina and the floating casino is part of a larger government project to boost tourism in the region famous for the Iguaza falls. According to Eduardo Torres, president of Provincial Institute of Lotteries and Casinos a floating casino  in the city of Puerto Misiones is  part of the development of five star hotels and casinos in the city which will generate levels of tourism  “parallel to that which is experienced in the province.”

The boat will be unique in Latin America as it will not only serve as a casino but also hotel and entertainment centre. The ship is currently being converted into a casino in the harbour of Puerto Madero in Buenos Aires but once it arrives in Misiones the engine will be removed.  The new casino in the city of Puerto Misiones will create 500 jobs and will be the first stage in the building of a “mini Las Vegas” according to local government officials.
