Australia – Crown teams with Wymac to develop skill-based games

By - 8 August 2017

Australian operator Crown Resorts is developing its own skill-based gambling games to bring new life to its digital offerings; CrownBet, Betfair Australasia and its DGN Games social gaming division.

The games are coming from Chill Gaming, a joint venture Crown has formed with New Gaming Pty, owned by Wymac Gaming Solutions. That venture is working on ‘a new generation of arcade-style gambling machines that determine payouts on player ability as well as chance.’

New Gaming Pty Ltd is owned by the founders of electronic gaming machines developer and manufacturer Wymac Gaming Solutions.

Ken Barton, Chief Financial Officer of Crown Resorts, said games would be demonstrated at gaming exhibitions over the next few months.

Mr. Barton said: “Skill-based gaming is an interesting concept that is getting traction in a number of markets. It is a reaction to the emergence of games that are different to traditional games. The [digital] market is growing strongly. If you looked at 32 per cent revenue growth overall, you would see a disproportionate amount of that given the scale and the high growth rates contributed by that business. We have got prototypes developed, and at gaming shows that are coming up over the next few months, we should have some demonstrations that we will be able to show.”
