Australia – Fox Sports launches daily fantasy sports

By - 5 April 2016

FOX Sports Australia has teamed up with CrownBet to launch new daily fantasy platform Draftstars, offering Australia’s biggest fantasy prize pools and an exciting way for sport lovers to test their skill and knowledge against each other.

Draftstars will be the most advanced daily fantasy platform in Australia and will also be the Official Daily Fantasy Sports Partner of the AFL, with exclusive access to match content not available to any other operator.

Draftstars offers its players the opportunity to compete and win against their peers across a range of different games, including free or paid entry games, with both collective and guaranteed prize pools. Players can also form their own competitions with friends or compete more broadly in public competitions.

Once a player has entered a contest, they choose their team of professional athletes for a given match or round to form their own fantasy team, with winners receiving a payout from the contest prize pool.

Kicking off with AFL as the first sporting code on the Draftstars platform, other local and global sports including the NRL and NBA will be added in the coming months.

FOX Sports CEO Patrick Delany said: “As Australia’s sport leader with a dedicated AFL channel and coverage of every round LIVE and with no ad-breaks in-play, millions of AFL fans already delve into the game with our broadcast and digital platforms every day. Draftstars is a natural extension of the way we connect with Australians’ passion for sport, bringing together our broadcast credentials with CrownBet’s gaming expertise to allow AFL fans to immerse themselves in the sport in a whole new way.”

Draftstars Chief Executive Officer Matt Sanders said: “As Australians, we love our sport, we love to compete and we love to test our knowledge of sports against our mates. Anyone who lives and breathes AFL will love Draftstars for the exciting and engaging digital sporting experience our platform will deliver.

“Draftstars is a game-changing product, offering massive guaranteed prize pools and a range of games to suit any player, from the sports fanatic to the beginner.

“If you love the competitive grit and excitement of live sport, you’re going to love Draftstars.”

CrownBet CEO Matt Tripp said: “In creating this joint venture between CrownBet and Fox Sports, we believe we are bringing a global leading product to Australian fantasy fans.

“We are launching our product early to coincide with the start of the AFL season, to give Australian sports fans the chance to try it out and let us know what they think. We have an exciting road map of additional sports and features, including a mobile app in the coming weeks.”

Draftstars is built on the DraftDayTM platform developed and supplied by US based DraftDay Gaming Group, Inc. DraftDayTM is recognised as the world’s leading daily fantasy software platform. This is the first international partnership for DraftDay Gaming Group, which recently won the global Gaming Intelligence Award for Fantasy Sports Supplier of the Year. DraftDay Gaming Group has entered into an exclusive partnership with Draftstars in Australia.
“DraftDay is excited to be partnering with Draftstars to launch the defining daily fantasy sports website in Australia,” said DraftDay’s CEO Rich Roberts.

“DraftDay’s award-winning platform and B2B expertise will provide Draftstars with a market-leading daily fantasy sports technology platform, incorporating essential consumer-protection tools to enhance the player experience and increase brand loyalty.”
