Australia – Sky City’s casino expansion begins to rise into Adelaide’s skyline

Work on Adelaide Casino’s $330m expansion has achieved a key milestone with the pouring of the first suspended concrete slab, as the 12-storey development starts to rise into the city skyline.
The highly complex and sophisticated construction includes the erection of a steel gantry to allow deliveries to continue below to the Adelaide Casino, Adelaide Festival Centre and Dunstan Playhouse, while construction continues above.
Adelaide Casino General Manager Luke Walker said: “The expansion will transform Adelaide Casino into a world-class integrated entertainment destination with Adelaide’s most luxurious all-suite hotel, new signature restaurants and bars including a destination rooftop bar and a wellness centre.”
“Following completion of the expansion, we will have a total of 12 unique, food and beverage outlets for our customers from accessible, affordable cafes to high-end dining experiences.
“A key element of the expansion is the seamless integration of the new hotel building with the existing heritage building, which will be extensively refurbished to match the high standards the new development will set, while protecting its special character which will remain intact.”
Adelaide-based firm Hansen Yuncken has been contracted to deliver the majority of works for the expansion.
Hansen Yuncken State Manager Mark Rosenboom said: “The onsite workforce will build to around 350 a day at the project’s peak with 1,000 construction professionals involved in the project over two years. Ninety-percent of the people involved in the project will be South Australians.”
Work on the expansion is expected to be complete in late 2020 paving the way for the grand opening.
The opening will provide a significant tourism boost for South Australia by attracting more interstate and international visitors, with the benefits expected to flow to other high-end tourism operators.
The new Hotel will start to take bookings from April 2019 after being showcased to the Australian and international tourism industry at the Australian Tourism Exchange next year.
