Australia – SkyCity wants February start date for Adelaide expansion

By - 15 December 2015

SkyCity wants to start construction work on the A$300m expansion of its Adelaide Casino in February, to be completed by the end of 2018.
The redevelopment will include a 80-room hotel on the banks of the River Torrens, gaming suites for international VIP players and signature restaurants.

The Torrens footbridge will lead into a tunnel entrance to the Adelaide Railway Station, the casino will be expanded and a $610m plaza upgrade will see the addition of a 24-storey office tower, restaurants, cafes, bars, shops and a 1560-space underground car park.

Sky City’s Managing Director, Nigel Morrison said: “Developing a complex that boasts luxurious VIP facilities along with outstanding accommodation and signature dining experiences attracts both international and domestic visitors. Our Adelaide Casino development will help South Australia attract a greater share of high-value international visitors, particularly from China and South-East Asia. This development will help transform Station Road into a true entertainment precinct, and SKYCITY’s investment will create much-needed jobs and economic growth for South Australia and complement the redeveloped Adelaide Oval and the new and expanded Adelaide Convention Centre.”

He believes the expansion will greatly enhance SkyCity’s appeal to VIP gamblers from Asia. “They love wine, they love Grange, they love Magill Estate, they love golf and they love the weather,” he said.
Located in Adelaide’s historic Railway Station building, Adelaide Casino is South Australia’s only casino destination and the city’s most exciting gaming and entertainment venue.
