While the casino industry in Chile is well developed it does face a number of obstacles to growth most notably illegal gaming which continues to be an issue. However, the government is looking set to tackle the problem with the publication of a major new study into illegal gambling which was was delivered to local government leaders last month. The study revealed that there are now more than 33 thousand machines operating illegally in Chile. However local leaders have claimed that there is little they can do to control gambling machines operating outside of casinos as they say that they have little authority to intervene and there are no clear rules in place to tackle the issue.
