Chile – Chile’s Gross Gaming Revenues down in February

Gross Gaming Revenue for the casinos operating in Chile including the seven municipal casinos stood at $39,887m in February.

This represented a fall of 4.3 per cent compared to the same month last year but a cumulative real growth rate of 0.4 per cent in the last 12 months. According to the Chilean Gaming Control Board (SJC) Gross Gaming Revenue for the casinos which already come under the supervision of the SJC stood at $23,858m and made up 59.8 per cent of the total – this is -2.9 per cent compared to the same month in 2016 but an accumulated real growth of 0.3 per cent over the last 12 months. Gross Gaming Revenue for the seven municipal casinos stood at $16,030m making up 40.2 percent of the total. As a percentage of the total this is -2.6 per cent compared to February 2016 and an accumulated growth rate of 4.3 per cent over the last twelve months.

The number of visitors to the non municipal casinos in February stood at 450,749 -4.3 percent compared to February 2016. This is 0.4 per cent less than over the last 12 months. On average visitors spent $52,929 pesos each minus 1.6 per cent compared to February 2016 and recording an accumulated real growth in terms of expenditure of 0.05 per cent over the last 12 months. Meanwhile, total visitors to the municipal casinos (not including the casino in Puerto Varas which does not record this information) stood at 407,717 for the month of February. However data for average visitor spend to the municipal casinos is still unavailable for the municipal casinos.

The amount gambled in February via the 9,765 gaming machines that were in operation in the 17 non municipal casinos amounted to $319,166m. The prizes paid to players reached $299,723m, which was 93.9 per cent of the total amount wagered. As a result, gross win stood at $19,443m.

In terms of gross gaming income generated by the casinos of the total for the first time since both municipal and non municipal results were released together Casino de Viña del Mar came in first place with 15.4 per cent ($6,152m) and Monticello Sun came in second place with 14.9 per cent ($5,942m). This was followed by Coquimbo 8.8 per cent ($3,495m). Casino Rinconada 7.4 per cent ($2,942m). Marina del Sol Talcahuano 7.1 per cent ($2,842m). Casino de Pucón 6.2 per cent ($2,492m). In February the municipalities and regions where the casinos are located received a total of $3,806m in gaming tax revenue from the seventeen non municipal casinos while they also generated an additional $1,456m in tax on entrance fees for the state. On top of this amount they also generated $3,809m in gaming VAT.
