Colombia – NMi approved for another South American jurisdiction

By - 15 August 2016

Following on from the recent legalisation of online gaming in Colombia, regulator COLJUEGOS has announced the approval of NMi to certify and audit online gaming sites and operators.

NMi, the global compliance testing and auditing laboratory, is the first test lab to be approved in Colombia for certifications of both online and traditional land-based gaming systems. This approval further advances the world-leading gaming laboratory’s coverage in Latin America and the Caribbean, with recent accreditations including Panama, Peru and the Bahamas.

The announcement followed the publication of the resolution on the 14th of June 2016 by the regulator which officially defined the scope of requirements that NMi had to meet to become approved in this new and exciting market.

“It’s imperative that Play’n GO can offer all its games in regulated markets, that’s why partnering with NMi is so important to us, we can rest assure that our lab will be in new markets when we need them. We’re happy to be in a position where NMi is ready to take Play’n GO to Colombia almost immediately,” said Johan Törnqvist, Group CEO & Co-Founder at Play’n GO.

The Colombian gaming marketplace holds attractive propositions for operators and suppliers. To date, Colombia has only approved certification laboratories for land-based gaming, but the new regulatory framework defines multiple gaming categories, in addition to technical requirements for online gambling systems and land-based gambling. The new legislation enables interested parties to move into Colombia with the support of a trusted and experienced test lab that fully understands the regulatory framework in this new and exciting market.

Julian Borg-Barthet, Business Development for NMi Gaming’s gaming division, added: “We are delighted to have received our formal approval as a lab in Colombia. With our accreditation in Panama adding to our portfolio along with Peru and the Bahamas we are now accredited for all major jurisdictions in Latin America and the Caribbean, and we look forward to taking our customers into these new markets. Our customers’ compliance agenda is an integral part of their iGaming business, as they naturally wish to expand into these emerging, highly-regulated jurisdictions, and we know our customers appreciate the knowledge and experience we bring to ensure that they meet the needs of regulators.”

Mr. Borg-Barthet will be available to discuss Colombia and the regulatory requirements in multiple jurisdictions during G2E this September in Las Vegas.

Ali Heydary, Operations Manager, Canada, added: “We always strive to provide the best possible customer service, and as such, where required, we will run testing projects through our North American office to ensure that time zones meet the needs of our customers in Latin America and the Caribbean. In addition to individual jurisdictional compliance testing and auditing we also offer our customers transfers of approval, where relevant, which gives them cost effective and timely solutions for their global ambitions.”
