Cyprus – Greek Cypriots could see first casino open in July

By - 24 April 2017

Southern Cyprus could see its first casino this summer with the Melco International/HardRock planning to operate a series of small, satellite casinos by July of this year.

Whilst the consortium will be opening a temporary in Limassol in October 2017 and a permanent venue to be built on land next to My Mall at Zakaki in 2020, it has also been given permission to operate four satellite casinos and three slot-machine parlours.

The plan is to operate four satellite casinos by July 2017. The largest of these will be in Nicosia with 50 slot-machines and five gaming tables. The three slot-machine parlours will be built in Paphos, Larnaca and Famagusta.

The permanent casinos will have 500-room hotel alongside 1,000 slots and 100 table games.
The Council of Ministers is expected to sign the various contracts in the next few days with the National Gaming and Casino Supervision Commission then able to issue the consortium with the appropriate operating licences. The licence will be for 30 years with the first 15 of those being a monopoly.
