France – PMU sees horseracing return to growth in Q3

By - 6 November 2017

French sports betting operator PMU reported that betting on horseracing returned to growth in France in the third quarter with an increase of 2.7 per cent on the amounts wagered, totalling €6,718.3bn with revenue up 0.5 per cent to € 1,758.5bn.

In France, the stakes rose by 1.2 per cent, while internationally, they increased by 14.3 per cent.

CEO Xavier Hürstel said:”The financial results for the first nine months of the year confirm that the PMU has found its way back to growth. The strategic choices made over the past two years are paying off even though efforts must continue. The strength of the PMU is a strong base in a context of potential reshaping of the French games market. Indeed, if capital movements or organization should intervene on the gaming market in France, the PMU will be at the rendezvous of these developments through, if necessary, a reflection on its investment capabilities. ”

The renovation of the 13,200 points of sale continued with the new PMU, happy PMU or PMU express brands.
“In terms of the offer of bets and services, the latest innovations contribute significantly to the dynamism of horse racing,” Mr. Hürstel explained. Te operator enjoyed a lot of success by launching its Simple Jackpot, which multiplies the initial bet by up to 1,000 times. After a successful start, it stabilized between six and seven per cent of Simple stakes, after five months of activity. SMS bets totalled €66m in cumulative stakes by the end of September, confirming their continued success with bettors. Finally, in September, the PMU launched its new sister brand “hipigo by PMU”, a new site for mobile betting, hipigo.fr, designed to conquer online players who do not bet on the races.
It has been simplified to the extreme with the betting interface breaking the code of betting sites designed for regular gamblers.
