Germany – Gauselmann and Baden win Saxony-Anhalt licence

By - 29 May 2013

Merkur Spielbanken Sachsen-Anhalt, the partnership between Gauselmann Group and Swiss operator Stadtcasino Baden, has beaten off competition from four other casino groups to secure the right to operate casinos in Saxony-Anhalt in central Germany.

Two are planned initially with Magdeburg and Günthersdorf the chosen locations.

The licensing committee said the winning group’s professional expertise, economic solidity as well as social concepts and location strategies saw it come out on top.

Paul Gauselmann, Chairman of Gauselmann, said: “We would like to say thank you for the trust placed in us. Together with our partner Stadtcasino Baden AG and the state of Saxony-Anhalt, we are optimally prepared for a new beginning in the casino sector in Saxony-Anhalt. As a financially strong company with a long-term focus, this will enable us to create exemplary casinos here. We will now make the repeated change in hands of operators and ultimately three years of stagnation without casinos in Saxony-Anhalt a permanent thing of the past and very soon once again operate attractive casinos,” he added. “The opening of casinos in Magdeburg and Günthersdorf is first planned upon this certification. Truly special recreational offers will be possible in future here where the player will always be the centre of attention thanks to the 40 years of experience in the operation of modern and top quality entertainment centres in approximately 500 locations in Germany and Europe and the specific experience in the casino sector of Stadtcasino Baden AG.”
