Holland – Ministry proposes State Lottery privatisation

By - 7 May 2014

Amongst a raft of privatisation proposals currently being considered in the Netherlands, including banking, railway, education facilities, gas and electrical companies etc., the Dutch Minister for Housing and the Central Government Sector, Stef Blok, has indicated that the national government is considering privatising the Netherlands’ State Lottery, in addition to the already confirmed privatisation of Holland Casino. According to Mr. Blok, as semi-private and fully private lottery providers are already present in the Dutch market, transparency is foreseen through licensing requirements and as a national Gambling Authority has been founded, there seems to be little added value for the government to remain a shareholder in the State Lottery.
