Italy – Italy to launch new online licences

Italy will launch a tender process for an additional 120 online gaming licences according to a notice published by the Official Journal of the European Union.

It is believed that around 40 of these licences will be issued to operators already operating in the Italian online space who need to renew their license. To take part in the tender operators will have to pay €200,000 with bids needing to be submitted by March 19. The bidding process alone will raise €24m. Applicants will need a physical presence in a country in the European Economic Area in order to join the tender. Several online companies including Winamax, Marathonbet and Pinnacle have already lodged their interest.

The licences will cover online sports betting, card games, slots and bingo.

In the last year, online sports betting revenue has increased in Italy by 59.4 per cent to €555.6m, including €82m in just the month of December.

Bet365 accounted for 17.4 per cent of this revenue with SKS365 accounting for 12 per cent and Snaitech with 9.5 per cent.

The last year saw Italy’s online casino revenues increase by 29.2 per cent to €567m with Lottomatica leading the way followed by Sisal and PokerStars.

In other news, Vwin, a top brand in Asia for online betting has become the shirt sponsor for AC Milan. Vwin becomes the Rossoneri‘s first Official Regional Partner and will work with the Club in the Asian countries.
