By - 24 March 2014

Regional minority groups in Saint-Vincent have asked the next Regional Council for the resignation of the leadership of Casino de la Vallee, the President of the Region and the Regional Council.

The request follows a meeting between trade unions and casino employees protesting against the plan to cut staff costs presented by the company.

Laurent Vierin of the trade union said the vote was unanimous to propose initiatives that will see the Regional Council and the heads of the casino step aside

” We received a clear mandate from the base of workers,” he said. “During the next council session, Alpe, M5s, Pd-Left VDA and UVP will present one or probably two resolutions that ask’ for the political commitment from the President of the Region and the Regional Council.

The opposition will also propose that a task force is created consisting of all political forces and representatives of workers to study the recovery strategies of the casino.

Roberto Cognetta of M5s said rehabilitating the company is entirely necessary as if the tow loses its casino it would be a defeat for everyone that no one can afford.

Raymond Donzel of Pd said: “We feel very empowered to go all the way in this matter, in respect of the difference in roles between us and the unions.”

Workers at the casino have been striking in protest of a series of job cuts following porr results at the casino.
