Japan – Japan casino bill to be resubmitted by the end of March

By - 25 March 2015

Legislators backing Japan’s move towards integrated casino resorts have confirmed they will resubmit the bill to legalise casino gaming by the end of March in the hope to get it passed by the end of the year.

Liberal Democratic Party politician Takeshi Iwaya said the bill would be submitted again on the last day of the fiscal year. “We have decided to submit it before the end of the fiscal year,” he said.
The news will be music to the ears of casino giants such as MGM Resorts, Las Vegas Sands Corp, Wynn Resorts and Caesars Entertainment, all who had been optimistic that the Prime Minister Abe would be able to pave the way to integrated resorts and open a market that CLSA believes could generate revenues of $40bn.

Japan’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party shelved plans to approve a casino bill during the last Diet session delivering a huge hammer blow to Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s growth strategy of casinos opening prior to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
