Imagine a scenario in which the advisors to the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, are listening to their man giving a speech live to television, while carefully watching a computer screen.

The screen is split between the autocue and a software programme being used to scan social media channels to gather real-time feedback.

The Mayor’s staff can see the reaction of voters as people tweet and comment on the speech as it’s happening.
