South Korea – Nanum Lotto to run South Korean lottery

By - 4 September 2013

Intralot’s Korean lottery consortium Nanum Lotto has been awarded a license to operate South Korea’s National Lottery by the Korea Lottery Commission (KLC).

The duration of the license awarded is five years and the newly developed localized system is expected to be launched early December 2013. During the new license’s term, Nanum Lotto will be responsible for operating a consolidated lottery business, which includes the Online Lotto, Instant Products, and the Electronic Lottery. Intralot will provide system operations, monitoring services, consulting services related to both Online and Instants products, and technological support. The Nanum Lotto consortium has been exclusively operating the South Korea’s National Lottery since 2007, holding the five-year license that it had received the same year following an international tender.

Intralot Group CEO, Constantinos Antonopoulos, said: “We are very satisfied that we will continue this significant project, further strengthening our leading position in South Korea and the wider Asian region. The successful and profitable operation of the South Korean Lottery during the past 5 years, supported by Intralot’s state-of-the-art technology, lead to the renewal of the license of our Consortium to operate the National Lottery in South Korea. I would like to congratulate both Nanum’s and Intralot’s hard working teams in the country, who have closely co-operated for this great success. We are looking forward to new business opportunities in both South Korea and the wider Asian region, and are well placed to explore them for the benefit of the company’s shareholders.”

Marios Mitromaras, General Manager of Intralot Asia, added: “As a member of the Nanum Lotto consortium, we are very pleased with this new license in South Korea. During the last five years Nanum Lotto has operated a very successful Lottery business. With our continuous support and commitment, our Consortium will continue the successful operation of the lottery focusing on further developing the games’ portfolio with the aim to increase both the Lottery’s profitability and its contribution to Good Causes.”

During the last five years under the operation of Nanum Lotto consortium, the South Korea’s National Lottery has posted about 25 per cent increase of sales with a single game, the 6/45 Lotto game, and is expected to expand both its online and instant game portfolio during the next five year license term.

The Nanum Lotto consortium, in which Intralot is a shareholder, is composed of the Eugene group, Daewoo Information Systems, NH Bank, Windyplan, SG&G, Samsung Publishing, Bixolon, and Youngwoo.
