Spain – Spanish online gaming market slips by five per cent

According to The Directorate General for the Regulation of Gambling (DGOJ) report on Spain’s online gaming market the total amount bet from July to September stood at €2,579.82m a decrease of 5.57 per cent with respect to the second quarter of 2016 but an increase of 23.94 per cent over the same period last year.

Meanwhile GGR for the quarter, stood at €102,89m an increase of 4.09 per cent compared to the last quarter and an increase of 22.23 per cent compared to the same period in 2016.

Meanwhile the total amount of deposits from July to September stood at €282,77m a decrease of 2.36 per cent compared to the last quarter and an increase from the same quarter in 2015 of 37.40 per cent.

According to the report the total amount bet in the third quarter increased by 0.09 per cent for poker, by 18.35 per cent for online competitions while online casino betting rose by 4.52 per cent. Meanwhile sports betting decreased by as much as 14.58 per cent and bingo by 3.15 per cent. In terms of GGR, however, poker increased by 0.29 per cent, Casinos by 1.21 per cent), sports betting increased by 6.24 per cent, bingo increased by 0.26 per cent while betting on online competitions increased by 23.33 per cent. Meanwhile, the number of active registered online users during the period stood at 657, 184 an increase over the previous quarter of 8.73 per cent, and a very impressive 89.81 per cent increase compared to the same quarter in 2015.

Of the total amounts played sports betting came in first place with 44.71 per cent of the market share. Casino gaming came in second place with 39.97 per cent and poker came in third place and stood at 14. 60 per cent. Bingo accounted for 0.64 percent while betting on online competitions accounted for 0.08 per cent. In terms of GGR and market share sports betting accounted for 55.22 per cent, casino gaming stood at 27.61 per cent, poker stood at 13.40 per cent, bingo 2.12 per cent while gaming via online competitions accounted for 1.65 per cent of the market.

Of the €1.031,12m gambled via online casinos roulette came in first place with €486.71m (47.20 per cent). €352.90m was bet via online slots (34.22 per cent). €191.18m was bet on Blackjack (18.54 percent). €0.32m (0.03 per cent) was bet on Punto Banco while €0.01m was bet (0.01 per cent) on Complementary Games (games which include an element of skill or knowledge).

Meanwhile GGR for online casinos stood at €28.41m. Roulette came in first place with €10.64m (37.45 per cent of GGR) beating GGR for online slots which stood at €13.79m (48.54 per cent). GGR for Blackjack stood at €3.97 (13.97 per cent) while GGR for Complementary Games stood at €977.29m. In last place came Punto Banco GGR for which stood at €0.01m. (0.04 per cent).
