Switzerland – Loterie Romande believes online proposals are ‘coherent and balanced’

By - 31 May 2017

Swiss lottery group, Loterie Romande (LoRo, Société de la loterie de la Suisse romande) doesn’t want any changes made to proposals put forward for online gaming laws in Switzerland.

The company announced steady revenue growth of 5.7 per cent last year, reaching CHF 398m, up from CHF 377m in 2015. The growth has been driven by the launch of the record CHF70m jackpot at Swiss Loto. Net profit amounted to CHF 216.8m.

Parliament will soon examine the finalised version of a new Gambling Law to lead online gaming forward in Switzerland.

A spokesperson for Loterie Romande said: “We believe that this project is both coherent and balanced and that it takes into account the interests of all stakeholders. It ensures appropriate protection of the public against the dangers of gambling while providing for concrete measures to curb illegal gambling, such as the blocking of unauthorized websites. Given the balance found, especially in terms of social responsibility, Loterie Romande insists on the need not to alter the text by amendments that would undermine the competitiveness of lottery games and sports betting.”
