UK – Gambling Business Group urge new Culture Secretary not to sidestep gambling

By - 22 July 2016

The Gambling Business Group (GBG) the strategic body whose members account for some 70 per cent of Gross Gaming Yield, has reacted swiftly to the appointment of Karen Bradley, to the post of Culture Secretary.

Following confirmation that the MP for Staffordshire Moorlands had been appointed to new Prime Minister Theresa May’s cabinet, CEO, Peter Hannibal wrote to Ms Bradley, introducing the Gambling Business Group, congratulating her on her appointment and offering to provide the Minister with a fact finding tour of UK gambling, in all of its guises.

Welcoming Karen Bradley to her new role, Peter Hannibal said: “Clearly the Minister has a very busy portfolio of high profile issues to deal with, not least the debate concerning the BBC’s royal charter. However, the GBG believes that it is vital that gaming is not pushed down the agenda. We have our own extremely important issues, not least the saga of the Triennial, which continues to drag on. I’m pleased to note that Tracy Crouch appears to be staying in place, which is positive news. Whilst Karen Bradley may not be well known to many in the industry, she is well known to Theresa May having worked as the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State in the Home Office with the PM.”

The objectives for the Gambling Business Group are purposely concentrated on improving the business environment for its members, which includes engaging with government thinking, helping to shape the political agenda and protecting the long term future of the companies and people working within the Industry. Key areas of focus are regulation and legislation, government policy and social responsibility.
