US – Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun get special use permit for East Windsor site

Foxwoods Resort Casino and Mohegan Sun have taken a huge step towards receiving planning permission for their third Connecticut casino with the Planning The approval gives the green light for a casino to be opened in East Windsor just 13 miles south of Springfield where MGM is building its own casino.

The Mashantucket Pequot and Mohegan Tribal Nations behind Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun will develop a casino at the old Showcase Cinemas site to stop the flow of locals going to MGM Springfield.

The $400m casino will feature a 100,000 square feet gaming floor compared to MGM’s $960m 125,000 square feet gaming floor alongside 55,000 square feet of MGM will open on August 24 at least a year before the two tribes could open their East Windsor casino.

The Mashantucket Pequot and Mohegan Tribal Nations have already knocked down the former movie theater but haven’t started building yet.
