Vietnam – Room to slot legislation to limit Vietnam sector

By - 8 August 2013

New laws in Vietnam will mean only five-star hotels will be able to run fully fledged casinos with smaller hotels ruled out by a stipulation that links the number of rooms a hotel has with the number of slots it is allowed to operate.

The new legislation limits one slot machine to every five rooms. Hotels will be fined US$8,580 to US$9,533 or even lose their licenses if they install more slots than the legal quota. The law will come into effect by October.

The ruling means that many of the three and four-star hotels, that operate75 to 100 slots will be all but forced out of the gaming industry.

Casinos in Vietnam are only allowed to be frequented to foreigners and overseas Vietnamese.
