Argentina – Boldt granted Buenos Aires licence extension until June

By - 15 April 2019

The governor of the province of Buenos Aires, María Eugenia Vidal, has ratified by decree a resolution put forward by The Provincial Institute of Lottery and Casinos (IPLyC) which extends Boldt’s licence to operate slots in the casinos of Buenos Aires until June – the date that the new licence holders will take charge.

In January the IPLyC decided to exclude Boldt from the licensing process for the Central and Hermitage casinos in Mar del Plata and those in Tandil and Miramar. The news meant that Boldt’s offer had been rejected for over half of the business the company has run for over two decades.

The tender for the slot machines operating in the casinos was made official in January 30 2018 in the government’s Official Gazette. According to the decree, Boldt was awarded the management of the gaming rooms of the casinos in Tigre and Pinamar. Meanwhile, permission to run the slots in the Central Casino of Mar del Plata and Monte Hermoso was granted to Casino de Victoria SA. However, the government rejected the offer made by company UTE made up of companies Entretenimientos Saltos del Moconá and Bingo Oasis de Pilar for the Hermitage casino and those in Tandil and Miramar.

In January via decree signed by Governor María Eugenia Vidal, the Executive approved the public bidding process for the operation of 3,860 slot machines in the province. It was the first public tender in the history of the province, since until then the licence had been controlled exclusively by Boldt through direct licensing agreements with different governments.
