Argentina – Casinos Austria to sign deal in Salta

By - 15 October 2013

Casinos Austria International is to buy the remaining shares of Entretenimiento y Juegos de Azar (ENJASA), giving it full control and ownership of the Argentinian operator.

Casinos Austria agreed to the deal after discussions with the local government of Salta and agreeing to promote tourism and the entertainment sector in the province.  In a press release the company said that it has much to add in the future growth of both Austrian and European tourism in the province.

After gaming was privatised in Salta in 1998, ENJASA was given the exclusive right to run gaming. In December 2006, Casinos Austria International strengthened its cooperation with ENJASA acquiring a majority stake in Leisure & Entertainment – a company that owns 90 per cent of ENJASA’s shares.

In August Minister of Economy, Carlos Parodi announced that ENJASA’s license, which it has held since 2000, would be revoked due to apparent breeches in anti-money laundering standards.  These allegations were strongly denied at the time and the company responded with an administrative appeal and an appeal to the local courts. However the new deal sees Casinos Austria owning 100 per cent of Leisure and Entertainment SA – ENJASA’s mother company.

Casino Austria is a leading national and international gaming company. The company together with its partners operates in about 40 land-based casinos in 16 countries and the company has been present in Argentina since 1998.
