Argentina – Dispute over slots and casinos in Chaco province ends

By - 24 April 2023

According to a court ruling company Casinos del Litoral SA and its concessionaire “Casinos del Chaco” must relinquish the licences for 17 slot parlours that were awarded by Decree No. 303 February 27, 2014.

The head of the Civil and Commercial Court No. 6, Jorge Mladen Sinkovich, rejected an appeal filed by the Chaco Lottery, therefore confirming the nullity of the tender for the slot parlours almost ten years ago. At the same time the court ordered the Executive Branch and the Chaco Lottery to administer the slot parlours which are currently operated by Casinos del Litoral SA.

Juan Carlos Bacileff Ivanoff, former lieutenant governor of Chaco, granted the licence for the provincial gambling halls to the company Casinos del Litoral in 2014.

In August 2022 a judge accepted an appeal against the decision which had been requested by deputies José Mongeló, Germán Bittel, Celeste Segovia and Daniel Trabalón.

According to local lawmakers the granting of the slot parlour licences had led to millions of lost revenue to the state which could have helped the province out of its current economic crisis.

Casinos del Litoral is one of the largest operators in northern Argentina, with 23 casinos in the provinces of Corrientes and Chaco.
