Artificial Intelligence: Game Design

AI is revolutionising game design, particularly in the iGaming sector, as demonstrated by XGENIA’s innovative tool, ‘Ignite.’ Launched in July 2024, Ignite allows operators and studios to create prototype slot games in under twenty minutes—a remarkable reduction from the traditional timelines that often span several months. Adam Davis, Chief Revenue Officer at XGENIA, highlights that this technological advancement is not just about faster game creation – it represents a major shift in how games are conceived and played.

XGENIA’s AI-powered game development platform enables you to create and deploy games in minutes rather than months. Can you explain how this is possible?

Adam Davis: At XGENIA, we’ve taken what used to be a laborious, months-long process and turned it into something that can be done in a coffee break. Our platform, powered by tools like IGNITE, combines an intuitive interface with cutting-edge AI. Imagine having an idea for a game—you start by inputting a prompt: describe the themes, mechanics, or visual styles you want. The AI then takes over, generating a playable prototype based on your prompt in minutes. What’s more, our newly integrated Slot Editor allows users to use the same AI to fine-tune every detail at the individual element level, providing a deep level of control over the resulting game. By the time you’ve finished tweaking, you’re ready to deploy. It’s seamless, efficient, and utterly game-changing.

In what ways does XGENIA’s prompt-driven, AI-generated slots platform improve time and cost efficiency compared to traditional game development methods?

Adam Davis: Traditional game development often involves large teams, hefty budgets, and timelines stretching into months or even years. With XGENIA, we’ve flipped that script. Our prompt-driven AI allows you to go straight from concept to prototype in minutes, cutting out the need for lengthy manual processes. In addition to IGNITE we have BLAZE, our AI game maths engine. By running millions of simulations on user inputs like volatility and RTP, it ensures every game is as engaging as it is accurate and profitable in a fraction of the time traditional game maths development takes. These and other tools in our platform mean developers can iterate rapidly, dramatically cut costs, and bring their creative visions to life without the usual lead times.

For operators, it’s about delivering fresh, engaging content faster than ever, all while maximising ROI. Whether it’s through cutting-edge mechanics, seamless customisation, or time-saving efficiencies, our tools ensure operators can keep players engaged while staying ahead of the competition.

How does XGENIA foresee its AI-generated slots platform reshaping the current landscape of the iGaming industry?

Adam Davis: The XGENIA platform is more than just a tool—it’s a catalyst for change. By slashing development times and costs, we’re democratising game creation, allowing smaller operators to compete with industry giants. This, in turn, fosters more innovation and diversity in the types of games being offered, which benefits all.

But it’s not just about speed and affordability. The ability to personalise games quickly means operators can cater to niche audiences or react swiftly to trends. This level of agility can redefine player expectations and raise the bar for engagement and creativity across the industry.

Can artificial intelligence truly be creative in game design, or is it merely replicating existing mechanisms and features? In your view, can AI genuinely contribute innovative ideas to game design?

Adam Davis: AI absolutely has the potential to be creative in game design—provided we redefine what creativity means in this context. Creativity is often about making unexpected connections, exploring possibilities, and pushing boundaries, all of which AI excels at when guided effectively. The XGENIA platform consists of multiple AIs, and we’ve seen them engage in discourse, come to decisions and propose entirely new game mechanics, such as innovative ways to balance volatility and player engagement, that deviate from traditional patterns.

That said, AI doesn’t operate in a vacuum. It requires direction, context, and vision, which come from humans. Together, they form a powerful partnership. AI generates ideas,  runs simulations, and tests boundaries at a scale and speed no human could match, while human designers curate, refine, and inject their unique sensibilities into the final product.

AI doesn’t just replicate existing mechanisms—it expands the creative toolkit. It allows designers to focus on the “big picture” ideas while automating the repetitive, technical, or exploratory processes. This combination leads to genuinely innovative outcomes, whether it’s a fresh take on a classic slot or an entirely new format inspired by unconventional sources. So yes, AI can and does contribute groundbreaking ideas to game design when used thoughtfully.

What role does ethical innovation play in XGENIA’s mission, and how is this principle incorporated into the development of your AI tools and solutions?

Adam Davis: Ethics and innovation go hand in hand at XGENIA. Our AIs are designed to prioritise player wellbeing alongside performance. For instance, we’ve developed features that can proactively identify patterns of compulsive behaviour, giving operators tools to respond responsibly.

Where possible, we automate these safeguards, ensuring they’re consistently applied without compromising the player experience. Ultimately, we believe that technology should benefit not just operators but players too, creating an ecosystem where innovation and responsibility thrive together.

Currently, your focus is on slots. Do you have plans to expand into other types of games in the future?

Adam Davis: Absolutely. While slots are our starting point, they’re just the beginning. We’re already exploring other formats where our AIs can bring the same efficiencies and creative possibilities. We’re also excited about entirely new, AI-driven game formats that blend traditional casino elements with mechanics inspired by broader gaming trends. The goal is to keep innovating and expanding the horizons of what’s possible in iGaming.

What future advancements can we anticipate regarding the integration of AI in game development?

Adam Davis: The possibilities are thrilling. One area we’re particularly excited about is real-time personalisation, where games adapt dynamically to player preferences as they’re being played. Another is AI-assisted narrative creation, where tools like our Cinematic Video Editor evolve to generate immersive storylines on the fly.

We’re also looking at the role AI can play in simplifying compliance, such as automatically ensuring games meet regulatory standards during development and are certified straight out of the gate. The integration of AI into every step of the process, from ideation to launch, will continue to streamline workflows and elevate creativity.

More broadly speaking, how will AI change the gambling landscape going forward?

Adam Davis: AI is set to be a transformative force in gambling. For operators, it means more efficient operations, personalised player experiences, and the ability to innovate rapidly. For players, it promises richer, more engaging games that feel tailored to their preferences.

But it’s not just about the games themselves. AI could redefine how operators manage their businesses, from marketing to customer service, through predictive analytics and automated insights. As an AI-first company, the entire team at XGENIA has the mindset of leveraging AI to make all aspects of iGaming much more efficient. It’s an exciting time for the industry, and we’re proud to be at the forefront of this evolution.
