Australia – Queensland casinos forced into three-day ‘circuit breaker’

By - 30 June 2021

Queensland’s three casinos have been told to suspend operations following a three-day ‘circuit breaker’ in Brisbane, Gold Coast and Townsville City.

Treasury Brisbane, The Star Gold Coast and The Ville Resort-casino have all shut their doors.

Star Entertainment said: “The Star Entertainment Group provides the following update on operating conditions at The Star Queensland properties. Further to The Star’s ASX Announcement of 28 June 2021, the Queensland Government has announced that certain regions of Queensland will enter a 3 day lockdown from 6pm on 29 June 2021 pursuant to the Restrictions for Impacted Areas Direction (No. 4). This will impact both The Star Gold Coast and the Treasury Casino & Hotel in Brisbane. The Star will continue to pay staff during this lockdown period. The Star remains committed to the health, safety and wellbeing of its team members and guests.”

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said: “With the new Delta strain now in the Queensland community, we can’t afford to take any chances. This highly infectious strain means that a three-day lockdown in South East Queensland, Townsville and Palm Island is our only choice. I’m asking all Queenslanders and all visitors to these affected areas to abide by the lockdown – this is absolutely vital to keep us all safe.”
