Australia – Queensland pokies to allow $50 and $100 notes
By Phil - 16 December 2013
The Australian state of Queensland has increased the limit on the denomination of bank notes that poker machines can accept from $20 to $100.
Queensland’s Attorney General, Jarrod Bleijie, has approved the change to accept $50 and $100 notes ending a 20 year restriction to $20.
The approval is major win for lobbyists such as Echo Entertainment and comes with the blessing of Premier Campbell Newman. He said: “This is a change about the notes you can use; not changes to the limit. There’s a $100 limit, which puts a real lid in terms of problem gamblers. We’ve got some tight controls here and we haven’t slackened them off.”
