Betsson Group obtains licenses to operate in Peru

Betsson Group announced that it had obtained licenses to operate sports betting and online casino in Peru with its Betsson and Betsafe brands.

Pontus Lindwall, President and CEO of Betsson AB, stated: “We have really looked forward to Peru introducing a local regulation and are very pleased with the issuing of these licences.

“With this announcement, we affirm our commitment to the local economy and the new regulatory framework in the country.”

In 2019 the group launched its Betsafe brand in Peru. Additional licences for its Inkabet brand are expected to follow. In August 2021  Betsson, signed an agreement to acquire Inkabet’s B2C online gambling business for US$25m. Inkabet was launched in 2012.

The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) finally approved the regulations of Law No. 31557 which regulates online gaming and sports betting in October 2023.

Mincetur hopes that the enforcement of Law No. 31557 and its regulations will provide security to players through responsible gaming policies, as well as formalize the activity. It is estimated that the volume of bets placed in Peru during 2022 was close to S/3.800 billion.
