By - 23 January 2017

The eSports Lounge at Elements Casino was proud to announce its partnership with Team Canada as they aimed to secure a title at the World Electronic Sports Games (WESG).

The WESG tournament, which began on January 12, 2017 in Changzhou, China sees teams from 24 countries competing in Counter Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO). The tournament is a three-stage qualifier in which each participating team must have five players from their respective countries. The game that will be played for the win is CS:GO, a multiplayer first-person shooter game that is the leading eSports title in its category. The prize pool of the tournament is an estimated $2.5m.

“Supporting a Canadian team at an eSports tournament of such magnitude was a unique opportunity for us as we recently launched Canada’s premier eSports lounge at Elements Casino in December,” said Michael Kim, General Manager Elements Casino. “We are excited to cheer on Team Canada as they take on the best the world has to offer.”

“We feel great about our chances at placing high in the tournament despite being placed in a very challenging group,” said Matthew Arnold, Team Canada GM. “We have gone through a lot adversity during this tournament but we compete no matter what and we know if we want to bring the title home to Canada, we are going to have to continue to fight until we have nothing left.”
