Chile – Enjoy to continue online expansion

By - 1 May 2023

Enjoy has emphasised the need for the government to update its gambling laws to allow for online gambling.

Speaking at the company’s Ordinary Shareholders’ Meeting Enjoy’s president Henry Comber said: “Modern legislation is urgently required to allow for the development of online betting platforms in Chile and so that they operate on an equal footing with all stakeholders interested in taking part.”

In February, the company launched EnjoyWin in Brazil.

“The company sees favourable prospects to begin to diversify its sources of income, as the world’s largest casino operators do, through the recently launched EnjoyWin.com online betting platform, which debuted in Brazil at the beginning of this year,” Comber is quoted as saying by Diario Financiero.

Like other landbased operators Enjoy has been critical of offshore companies offering online gambling in Chile without a licence. In July 2022 the company initiated legal action against Estonian based online operator Coolbet for operating gambling in contravention of local gaming laws. The lawsuit was filed just days after top division football club Colo-Colo had signed a sponsorship deal with the operator.

The executive also revealed more about the company’s plans going forwards now that the Dreams Enjoy merger has been scrapped. Comber confirmed that the company would not sell the Rinconada casino. The casino groups tried to appease the Commission for the Financial Market with an offer to offload the Enjoy Santiago casino. But this wasn’t enough to satisfy the regulator. In April the companies announced that they had scrapped their plans to merge with both companies stating to Chile’s Financial Markets Commission that ‘the process is to be abandoned.’
