Chile – Tax Revenue dips slightly for casinos

Tax revenue generated by casinos authorized by Chile’s gambling law (Law No. 19,995) reached CLP$16,993 million in April 2023 according to the SJC.
CLP$7,368 million was paid to the communes and regional government in which the casinos are located, while CLP$7,113 million was paid in VAT on gambling and CLP$2,512 million was paid in tax on entrance tickets to the casinos – this amount goes to the general funds of the nation.
Discounting inflation, the 25 gaming casinos that operate in the country registered gross gaming income (win) of CLP$48,194 million in April 2023, which, in real terms, was 4.6% lower than that obtained in April 2022.
The 22 casinos authorised by law 19,995 not including the three municipal casinos (Iquique, Puerto Varas and Natales that are still in operation, since they have a different tax regime) contributed a total of CLP $16,993 million in taxes in the month of April, exceeding by 3.6% the taxes contributed in April 2022 in real terms.
However, the Enjoy Pucón casino which has been in operation in Pucón since June 2022 was not taken into account in April’s 2022 tax contribution figures. This casino generated approximately CLP$479 million in taxes in the month.

Regarding visitor numbers, 604,998 people were registered who entered the 25 casinos in operation, which was an increase of 22% compared to April 2022. During April an average expense of CLP$77,448 per visit was recorded, which reflects a decrease in real terms of 23% compared to April 2022.
