Chile – Time runs out for Enjoy as deadline passes for completion of Puerto Varas project

Chile’s Superintendency of Gaming Casinos (SCJ) has started the administrative procedure to revoke the licence given in June 2018 to the Enjoy Casino of Puerto Varas, saying that Enjoy did not comply with the ‘development and delivery of the works committed within the established period’ which passed on August 1.
The SCJ said it would ‘safeguard the interests of the treasury and particularly of the municipality of Puerto Varas’ by revoking the licence.
The current concessionaire of the Municipal Casino of Puerto Varas will continue to operate the property until a new operator wins a tender to run the casino.
The Enjoy Group stated: “The Superintendency knows that all efforts were made to comply with the execution of the project in Puerto Varas, but that, nevertheless, Enjoy was affected by unquestionable situations of fortuitous event or force majeure, recognised by the Comptroller’s Office and by the Supreme Court.”
