China – Macau records 21st month of increases in April

By - 1 May 2018

Macau’s casino revenue increased by 28 per cent in April completing the territory’s 21st month of consecutive revenue rises.

Macau’s Gaming Inspection and Coordination bureau confirmed that revenues surged by 27.6 per cent to 25.73bn patacas ($3.18bn) outpacing analyst predictions of an 18 to 22 per cent growth.

Union Gaming Analyst Grant Govertsen said: “The growth came despite an unfavourable calendar with one fewer Saturday and was against a relatively tough comp of +16 per cent. On a GGR per day basis, April’s MOP858m was impressively in line with both of the recent holiday months: October (Golden week) at MOP859m and the combined Jan/Feb (Chinese New Year) at MOP857m. With GGR growth accelerating and both VIP and mass remaining above 20-percent growth, we remain bullish on the market and have a high degree of confidence in our +17 percent GGR forecast for the year with a bias to the upside.”
