China – Macau’s GGR falls by 60 per cent in the first quarter

Macau’s gaming revenue fell 59.9 per cent year-on-year to just MOP$30.64bn (€3.51bn) in the first quarter of the year.

The decline saw a 60.2 per cent fall in GGR from VIP baccarat, which generated just MOP$14.81bn (€1.7bn) during the period, down from MOP$37.21bn (€4.28bn) in the first quarter of 2019.

Mass baccarat revenue fell 59.3 per cent to MOP$12.15bn (€1.4bn) compared with MOP$29.88bn (€3.4bn) the year before. VIP baccarat accounted for 48.3 per cent of revenue in the first quarter of 2020, while mass baccarat accounted for 39.7 per cent. Taxation for the first three months has come in at MOP18.48bn (US$2.32bn), down 37.6 per cent compared to the period last year.
