China – Macau’s Golden Week boosts GGR to 35 per cent of pre-pandemic levels but ends in MGM Cotai closure

By - 2 November 2022

Despite the month ending with the temporary, four-day closure of MGM Cotai following an outbreak of COVID, Macau’s casino sector produced a month-on-month improvement in October of 31.4 per cent.

Macau’s Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau confirmed GGR of MOP$3.90bn (US$481.6m) in October, which was still down 10.7 per cent from October 2021.

The results was boosted by the National Day Golden Week holiday, which saw a daily average of 26,040 visitors to the SAR, taking mass market revenues to between 30 per cent and 35 per cent of pre-pandemic levels.

For the year so far, revenue has come in at MOP$35.7bn (US$4.41bn), representing a fall of 50.5 per cent on 2021’s figures.
