China – Macau’s Secretary for Economy and Finance expects no delay to tender process

By - 6 October 2020

Lei Wai Nong, Macau’s Secretary for Economy and Finance, does not believe that the public tender for gaming concessions in 2022 will be delayed by COVID-19.

The six current concessions and sub-concessions held by Sands China, MGM Resorts, Wynn Macau, SJM Holdings, Galaxy Entertainment and Melco Resorts will all expire in 2022.

Some analysts had suggested that the tender would be delayed, however Secretary Lei said: “We are already in the preparation stage and we have to consider many technical issues. The circumstances during the gaming market liberalisation in 2002 and now are very different.”

He added that the government would be presenting a draft bill Law No. 16/2001 to the city’s Legislative Assembly next year.
