Colombia- Coljuegos president resigns

By - 8 May 2023

The President of Coljuegos Roger Carrillo has resigned. The position has been temporarily filled by Sammy Libos Zúñiga – who serves in the Ministry of Finance.

Roger Carrillo had been appointed director of Coljuegos through Decree 0288 of 2023 issued by the Ministry of Finance on March 3 meaning that he was in the position for just over two months. Carrillo was nominated for this position by the president of the Conservative Party, Efraín Cepeda.

In February President Gustavo Petro presented a controversial health reform to lawmakers which his government says will improve primary care, expand access to treatment, raise healthcare worker salaries and fight corruption. His plans to create a more state controlled system were met with opposition from members of his own cabinet who warned that the reforms would be too costly. This led to a cabinet reshuffle in March.

In April Petro replaced seven of his ministers, hours after asking his entire cabinet to resign due to his difficulties in pushing ambitious reforms through Congress. Petro has been unable to deliver on his campaign promises when it comes to healthcare, pension reform and other measures including changes to the judiciary.
