By - 8 December 2020

The Danish Gambling Authority Spillemyndigheden has said that in connection with the lockdown of 38 municipalities, restaurants, gambling arcades and casinos will close in these municipalities from December 9 2020 until January 3 2021.

The association said: “The closure is carried into effect in order to prevent the Covid-19 virus from spreading further in 38 municipalities. (Copenhagen, Aarhus, Odense and several municipalities in Zealand).”

There are eight casinos in Denmark, six land-based and two on boats with one more casino set to open in Copenhagen next year. Spillemyndigheden has launched an invite for proposals for new casinos. In the third quarter of 2020 GGR from land-based casinos came in at DKK 87m ($14.16m), up from DKK 16m in the second quarter.
