Denmark – Online casinos up in Denmark but sports betting falls

Denmark’s revenue from its regulated online gaming market has increased 6.1 per cent year-on-year to DKK1.73bn (€232.0m) in the second quarter of 2019.

In the three months to June 2019, the total increase in online casino revenue rose from DKK 537m (€720m) to DKK 634m (€850m). Of this revenue, over two thirds (71.9 per cent) were generated from slots, 8.6 per cent came from blackjack and 11.6 per cent from roulette.

Mobile revenue exceeded 50 per cent of the total revenue for the first time within the three-month period. Land-based operations accounted for 33.4 per cent of total revenue earned for the market. Land-based slot revenue rose from DKK354m (€475m) to DKK363m (€487m) with 29.6 per cent coming from machines located in restaurants and 70.4 per cent from gaming halls.

Sports betting revenue was the only sector of the gambling market that fell. However, it remains the largest contributor to Denmark’s gambling revenue at DKK 1.25bn (€1.68bn), up 3.6 per cent from the previous year.
