Finland – Finnish gaming sector showing steady growth

Finland’s state-owned gaming operator Raha-Automaattiyhdistys (RAY) has seen a two per cent rise in revenue to €524.6m for the first eight months of 2015, with growth across all of its gaming sectors.
Restaurant, while its Playtech-powered iGaming offering contributed €41.3m, up 7 per cent year-on-year.

Casino Helsinki saw its GGR increase by four per cent to €19.2m, whilst revenue from casino games in restaurants increased by 8.3 per cent to €9.3m with digital gaming increasing by 6.8 per cent to €41.3m. Revenue from locations including shops and kiosks increased by two per cent to €391.3m, equating to almost 75 per cent of total revenue during the period. The revenue from RAY’s own arcades for this period came to just over €63.4m.

From this total RAY disbursed just over €62.8m to the state as lottery tax. Due to the moderate cost development, profit improved by 3.4 per cent, or over €9.3m reaching €286.6m.

RAY’s Velipekka Nummikoski said: “A particularly good piece of news was that the favourable development of revenue was reflected ultimately in support for health and social welfare organisations. Now more than ever, the work done by these organisations is valuable. Without players, revenue can’t be collected. Thank you to all those who play our games.”
