Finland – Revenue creeping up for RAY

By - 3 October 2013

The revenue of Finland’s Slot Machine Association continued to increase in the second four-month period of the year, despite revenue at Casino Helsinki falling by 5.6 per cent.

However, yield development slowed down slightly from the start of the year; in January to August, revenue increased by 2.1 per cent from last year and amounted to €520.2m.
From the €519m in gaming revenue, 12 per cent, €62.3m went to the state as lottery tax. The profit amounted to MEUR 285.1 in January–August, with an increase of 4.2 per cent when compared to the same time last year.

Managing Director Velipekka Nummikoski, said: “Based on the current forecast, we will meet the profit goal of our budget, although most expenses are due towards the end of the year. Next year looks to be very uncertain for the national economy of Finland, but we will plan and budget our operations in order to secure the benefits for social welfare and health organisations and war veterans. The overall economic recession and the decreasing private consumption are also reflected in slot machine gaming.”

Revenue from slot machines that are placed in the premises of RAY’s business partners increased slightly. Their share of the gaming revenue continued to be three quarters, almost €389.1m. However, there was a moderate decrease in revenue during the summer.

Gaming through digital channels increased greatly, again. Revenue improved by 25.9 per cent compared to the same time in 2012, amounting to €39m. There were 260,000 registered Loyal Customers at the end of August.

RAY’s own arcades were also very successful. The revenue from the 82 arcades amounted to €63.5m, and had a growth of about two per cent when compared to the same time last year.

Negative results, when compared to last year, were recorded by casino games in restaurants, which were down by 1.4 per cent and Casino Helsinki, which was down by 5.6 per cent.
