France – Deauville Mayor to take lead of French group PMU

By - 1 June 2020

French betting operator has confirmed that Bertrand Méheut will leave his position as President of the organisation with Philippe Augier, the current mayor of Deauville, to succeed him.

Mr. Méheut, former Canal + director, who took over as chairman of the GIE in April 2018, wanted to end his tenure. The company said he ‘had expressed this desire several months ago to the presidents of the parent companies, France-Galop and Le Trot. We already know his successor, Philippe Augier.’

Cyril Linette, who arrived alongside Mr. Méheut two years ago, will remain director general of PMU ‘fully in charge of deciding the strategy of the company, in continuity with the work undertaken for two years.’

Philippe Augier will be appointed president of the PMU at the end of the general assembly on June 9. It is supported by France-Galop, Le Trot and the ministries concerned. Mr. Augier has been present in the horse world for several decades. He arrived at the French thoroughbred sales agency in 1977, and instilled a real movement of professionalisation in the sector. He sold his company, which became Arqana, in 2006, to the Aga Khan, but still himself owns a stable of racehorses.
