France – Two men convicted of selling fake banknotes in French casinos

By - 15 December 2021

Two men have been convicted of selling fake banknotes in casinos in Pornic and Pornichet in the Loire-Atlantique region of France. They managed to exchange more than €20,000 of counterfeit money

They appeared before the court of Saint-Nazaire, Thursday, December 9, following a complaint filed on October 29 by the director of the casino from Pornic.

The two men, regular customers, introduced themselves to the casino operated by the Partouche group. The first, aged 46, exchanged a first ticket, which was checked, then went to the slot machines. The second defendant, aged 48, repeated the operation on several occasions with100 tickets exchanged in total. Watching the video surveillance subsequently showed that, as soon as the tickets were edited, the two men would withdraw the money directly from the terminals, without even touching the slot machines.

During its investigation, the gendarmerie search brigade was contacted by the Pornichet casino, also operated by the Partouche group, with a similar pattern emerging with the same individuals, who exchanged 18 tickets.

For money laundering, the first man was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment and a fine of €2,500. The second was sentenced to ten months’ imprisonment and a fine of €5,000. Both will also have to pay €20,800 to the Pornic casino and €4,400 to that of Pornichet.
