France – Upmarket illegal gaming club closed down in Paris

By - 19 April 2021

A luxury underground club has been closed down in Paris by the Central Service of Races and Games (SCCJ).

Since the coronavirus pandemic and the closure of approved gaming clubs and casinos, illegal gaming establishments have multiplied in the territory and in particular in the Paris region, in back shops or apartments as shown last January l intervention of the SCCJ in the 13th arrondissement.

This time there was a move upmarket, at least in terms of the environment with investigators discovering an illegal club located in the 16th arrondissement, avenue Foch, in a 250 m2 apartment on four floors with an elevator. It was open day and night. Only one poker table was set up, but customers could drink, eat, have a massage from four women, or buy cigarettes.

The venue had only been open for three weeks. The police arrested 12 people, including six men aged 30 to 40, suspected of being the organisers. About ten players could sit at the poker table, paying 5 to 10 euros every hour to the organisers. Other players could wait their turn in the rest of the apartment. A few thousand euros, a handgun and a car were seized by investigators. Those arrested were placed under judicial supervision pending the end of the investigation
