Germany – Bad Füssing Casino sees revenues slide due to pandemic

By - 21 March 2022

With its gaming floor shut for half the year due to the pandemic, the Bad Füssing Casino in the Passau region of Germany saw its revenues fall to €4.1m in 2021, down from €4.6m a year earlier.

With only 25 per cent of the regular capacity currently allowed, visitation was down to 36,000 visitors from 49,000 a year earlier according to spokeswoman for the Bayerische Spielbanken, Verena Ober.

The biggest win last year was made by a player who scooped the Bayern Jackpot in Bad Füssing: the slot game earned him €278,000.

For hygiene reasons, blackjack, poker or roulette is still not being played at all tables with some slot machines switched off to ensure a minimum distance between players. This also reduces revenues.

The gross gaming income of all Bavarian casinos in 2021 was more than €48m, down from €56m in 2021 and €86m in 2020.

More than 670 people currently work in all Bavarian casinos. Staff did not have to be reduced in 2021.

A total of over 670 people work in the Bavarian casinos. “We did not have to reduce staff in 2021,” said Ms Ober. “However, around 87 per cent went into short-time work during the pandemic-related closure period from November 2020 to June 2021.”
