Germany – Bavaria’s casinos up 35 per cent with lottery excelling too

By - 10 July 2023

LOTTO Bayern generated €304m in profit distribution and 12 millionaires during the first half of the year with guests up 50 per cent in Bavaria’s casinos and an increase in gross gaming revenue of 35 per cent as well as almost €217m for the common good in Bavaria.

A Eurojackpot win of over €73.8m was the highlight of a successful first half of 2023. In March, the State Lottery and Casino Administration transferred this amount to the account of a syndicate that had placed its gaming order at a LOTTO acceptance point in Upper Bavaria.

“Twelve millionaires, 75 six-figure big profits in all administrative districts and an increase in sales of 2.8 per cent. The year can go on like this,” said President Claus Niederalt, commenting on the half-year figures of the state-owned Bavarian gaming company.

The President of the State Lottery and Casino Administration is also pleased about a total distribution of more than €304.3m in winnings to LOTTO Bayern participants. Compared to the first half of 2022, this is almost nine million more.

Niederalt is also positive about the balance sheet of the Bavarian casinos: “We can be very satisfied with over 35 per cent more gross gaming revenue and almost 50 per cent more visitors,” said the President. Almost 330,000 guests were welcomed throughout Bavaria in the nine Bavarian casinos, with gross gaming revenue of 60.3 million euros in the first six months.

With a total turnover of 622.60 million euros, almost 217 million euros in lottery and sports betting tax, profit transfer and casino levy for charitable purposes flow into the Bavarian state treasury. These funds enable additional services, especially in the areas of sports promotion, cultural promotion, monument preservation and other public areas, which would otherwise not be possible or would be difficult to realize. They thus benefit all citizens in Bavaria.

In addition to the highest prize money of almost 74 million euros in the Eurojackpot, Spiel 77 won the second highest prize in Lower Bavaria with just under 4.6 million euros. Almost 1.2 million euros were won in the additional lottery in Swabia. In the LOTTO 6aus49, just under 1.6 million euros went to the Upper Palatinate, just under 1.3 million euros each to Upper Bavaria and Middle Franconia, over 1.2 million euros to Lower Franconia and over 1.1 million euros to Swabia.

Around 1.5 million euros in the Eurojackpot, one million euros in KENO and twice one million euros each in the seasonal lottery BayernMILLIONS brought further seven-figure winnings to Upper Bavaria. Furthermore, the participants achieved 75 six-figure big winnings of at least 100,000 euros throughout Bavaria.
