Germany – Gauselmann ready for action in the virtual world

By - 12 August 2022

The Gauselmann Group was one of the first providers in Germany to receive permission to operate virtual slot games.

Since the beginning of August, the East Westphalians have been allowed to offer their popular and successful slot games online under the domain www.merkur-spiel.de in Germany and thus legally ensure first-class gaming fun on the web.

Already in July 2021, the Gauselmann Group submitted the permit application for the organization of virtual slot games to the State Administration Office of Saxony-Anhalt.

Markus Ettlin, spokesman for the management board, said: “We have been in the starting blocks for a long time with our range of virtual slot games under the brand ‘Merkur Spiel’. We are all the more pleased that we can now finally make our stationary Merkur classics, which have been played millions of times, accessible online for our gaming guests. The permission is an important and big step for us on the way to becoming the best omni-channel provider throughout Europe.”

The development of game content – both for the terrestrial and online sector – has been one of the core competencies of the Gauselmann Group for years. At a total of 13 locations worldwide, gaming specialists develop the most innovative games and game systems based on current market and customer needs and thus always hit the nerve of gaming-enthusiastic customers. While international gaming has been at home in the digital world for a long time, the German online games market is now also benefiting from the innovative game developments of the Gauselmann Group.

The offer of virtual slot games on the Internet follows the legal requirements of the State Treaty on Gambling. With the license, the family-run group of companies is certified to fully comply with the regulatory and legal requirements for the operation of virtual slot games. For example, the Gauselmann Group is one of the few providers already connected to “LUGAS”, the transnational gambling supervision system introduced by the State Treaty on Gambling. The virtual slot games offered under the “Merkur Spiel” brand in the future have also been tested and approved by the Saxony-Anhalt State Administration Office and thus also ensure compliance with German legislation. The East Westphalians thus show once again that player protection is of particular importance within the Gauselmann Group – both stationary and online.
