Germany – Merkur Spielbank Halle on course to open in December

By - 5 November 2018

Merkur Spielbanken Sachsen-Anhalt has confirmed that construction of its casino in Halle, in the historic premises of the former casino on Franckestraße 1, is proceeding well with a soft-opening expected to take place in December this year, and the official opening scheduled for February 2019.

Susanne Rasspe, Head of Creative and Design Development, presented her design concept Carmel at a construction site press conference, which is intended for the interior design of the casino.

Halle will be the third casino location of Merkur Spielbanken Sachsen-Anhalt GmbH and Co. KG, a joint venture of the international Gauselmann Group from Espelkamp (NRW) and the Swiss city casino Baden AG.

Marcus Brandenburg, Director of the casino of Merkur casinos Saxony-Anhalt, said: “I am particularly pleased that our casino returns to the premises of the former casino in Halle and continues this special flair. The casino will cover 800 square meters of floor space, of which 340 square meters are intended as a gaming floor. Many of the construction stages such as the gutting of the premises, incorporation of a new load-bearing concrete floor, installation of the ceiling, installation of the steel frame for the central air conditioning and the laying of the main power line has already been completed. This allowed us to start in time with the next construction phase, which includes drywall as well as indoor air and electrical installations.”

The Carmel concept is named after the eponymous town in California, encompassing the warm colours and shapes of waves, creating a unique ambiance.

“A special highlight will be the approximately 2.6-tonne chandelier, which is mounted on a custom-made construction in the middle of the room,” explained Susanne Rasspe.

David Schnabel, Managing Director of Merkur Spielbanken Sachsen-Anhalt, added: “Committed employees are crucial to the success of the Merkur Casino in Halle, which will open its doors in December this year. 20 new jobs will be created. In order to be perfectly prepared for its new tasks, the company offers extensive training and qualifications in advance so that employees can be deployed in all areas of the casino.”
